Lancashire County Council have an ambitious ambition across education and skills for the county. This is a time the authority is moving at pace on their journey and they are looking for experienced, successful professionals to lead on this journey.


You will be responsible for statutory responsibilities for the school improvement defined within the children’s act, you be a significant contributor to the development of a sustainable system led model for the school improvement in response to a shifting educational landscape

  • Increase the number of post-16 young people in education, employment or training.
  • Champion adult education
  • Lead for the advisory service on the good management of data.
  • Take the lead for the advisory service on commissioning and training of advisors and associate advisors.
  • Take an oversight on sold services to schools


  • To improve outcomes for all children and young people accessing education in Lancashire (and where appropriate out of Lancashire) by driving through a strategy that prioritises and accelerates persistent underperformance for vulnerable groups.
  • Drive the best use of resources and create capacity across the school system to add value and reduce costs/duplication.
  • Support the Service Director for Education working between the Local Authority and Senior Officials including the Regional Schools Commissioner, Department for Education, Education Funding Agency, to develop the strategic role and function of the LA in relation to schools and education
  • Develop strong and influential networks and partnerships that address the drive for innovation and development
  • Create an environment for change, so that 'traditional thinking' is challenged and innovative, evidence-based solutions are pursued at pace.
  • Responsibility for ensuring that children’s outcomes are improved by commissioning effective education services for them and will have delegated authority for the County Council’s statutory responsibilities for education including the requirement to be Champion for Children. This will be achieved by leading in the management and development of a school-led system that centres on collaboration and networking to achieve effective school improvement that raises achievement.
