Hampton's Resourcing are currently supporting a well-known and reputable private company with the recruitment of a Principal Forensic Psychologist to join their team at their North London based Hospital that supports 92 patients across both medium & low secure wards providing care & support that offers a therapeutic environment where the focus is on maximising positive outcomes and recovery.

The Role
The successful candidate will join the established Psychology department comprised of a Principal Forensic Psychologists, a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Head of Therapies, Clinical Psychologists as well as assistant psychologists and psychology students.
You will provide a qualified psychology input to the MDT and service users ; providing highly specialist psychological assessment & therapy as well as offering advice and consultation on service users ' psychological care to non-psychology colleagues and to other, professional carers. You will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the Department's policies and procedures.

Role Responsibilities

  • To provide specialist psychological assessments of service users admitted to the Hospital based upon the appropriate use, interpretation & integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological & neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct & indirect structured observations & semi-structured interviews with service users, family members, outside agency; & others involved in the service user's care
  • To formulate & implement care plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a service user's mental health problems and implementing a range of psychological interventions, individually & in group settings, adjusting & refining psychological formulations while drawing upon different theoretical models & maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses
  • To evaluate & make decisions about treatment options and to demonstrate outcome of treatment using appropriate outcome measures & to be able to adapt treatment according to service user's mental state & motivational level in order to optimise outcomes within the framework of the department's agreed treatment protocols
  • To provide a CPA report for each service user in their designated ward area within the agreed framework and timescales of the psychology department
  • To ensure implementation of best practice guidelines, NICE guidelines and Department of Health guidance for psychological services for serious mental illness and personality disorders
  • To provide professional and clinical supervision to qualified and assistant psychologists; and trainee clinical/forensic psychologists
  • To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the Department's operational policies and services, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit

Candidate Criteria

  • Doctoral level training in clinical or forensic psychology
  • Registration with the HCPC as a chartered psychologist
  • At least 4 years of post-qualification experience in clinical forensic settings
  • Experience of applying psychological models of care to the problems of service users suffering from severe and complex mental health problems (e.g. personality disorder & substance misuse)
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for service users ' psychological care & treatment within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan
  • Experience of teaching, training & professional and /or clinical supervision to other professional staff
  • Post-graduate level knowledge of research design & methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology
  • Clear understanding of clinical risk assessment/management issues
