Like all Local Authorities we are stepping up to the challenge of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of Social Work intervention, by strengthening our relationships with partners and working collaboratively with Partners in Practice to find creative and innovative solutions to meeting the needs of children and young people in Wokingham.

We are one of 10 authorities, working with Eileen Munro, Terry Murphy and Andrew Turnell (MTM), embedding the Signs of Safety (SOS) Practice Framework across Early Help and Children’s Social Care. Signs of Safety has been developed on the basis that “The best outcomes for children and families occur when constructive working relationships exist between families and professionals and between professionals themselves”. It is a solution focused and safety-oriented approach that respects and builds on the strengths and existing safety within the family network. Successful candidates will be open to adopting this approach and developing their expertise where necessary.

Examples of current initiatives under our implementation and improvement plan for Wokingham include;

SOS Practice leader development programme that includes regular workshops, consultant led case consultations and a group supervision programme.
Bespoke training packages to meet the identified developmental needs of individual Social Workers and coaching to support SW’s in developing their career pathway and for progression planning.
We have piloted mobile devices such as tablets and laptops and through January/February are rolling out revised kit to all front facing social workers.
Regular Practice development days where good practice is shared and celebrated and Practice weeks to ensure leaders remain close to the practice on the ground.
A review of Service delivery and team structures to ensure that SW’s have manageable caseloads and receive quality supervision.
